A town that started off as merely wooded hills and lowland swamps soon became known as Walworth. Originally inhabited by four brothers, this town soon grew into a land mainly known for its agriculture and farming with dairy and apples as its two major imports. It was formed in the central part of the western border of Wayne County and took its name from General Chancellor Reuben H. Walworth, the very popular and last chancellor of the state of New York. Containing only three hamlets, Walworth, West Walworth, and Lincoln, this town has a lot of history and is a treasure of Western New York with Genegaw Park and Walworth’s Lions Club Festival in the park. It is also well known for their summer adventure weeks including such exciting themes as Survivor Week, Beach Week, and Nature Week.
