A town that quickly warms the heart of those who pass by, Pittsford was originally a part of Northfield. The town was named after the hometown of Pittsford’s first town supervisor and hero of the War of 1812, Colonel Caleb Hopkins, in Vermont. Pittsford’s prosperity derives from the Erie Canal, which passes directly through the town.

Keeping with the town-wide green plan, it has made a promise to conserve farms and parkland for future generations such as the Knickerbocker farm, which has been around for over 150 years. It is one of the oldest of Monroe County’s ten incorporated villages since 1789 and is home to one of the largest Wegmans in the state.

Pittsford has welcomed the LPGA since 1977, the PGA, the NFL Buffalo Bills at the St. John Fisher training camps, and some notables such as Tyson Beckford, Chuck Mangione, Pamela Melroy, and Adam Podlesh.

The school district, as well, has made Pittsford a local and national treasure receiving the New York State Governor’s Excelsior Award for Quality. Barker Road Middle School and Calkin Road Middle School has received the award of “National School to Watch,” a title only given to ninety schools in the country and a seven state championship soccer holders at Mendon High School. It also contains two exceptional universities, Nazareth College and St. John Fisher College.
