Penfield, New YorkPenfield, NY Weather http://www.weather.com/weather/today/Penfield+NY+USNY1111 Originally a hunting ground for the Seneca Nation, Penfield was purchased through the Phelps and Gorham Purchase through the hands of Daniel Penfield in 1795. While many saw merely a uninhabited swampland, Daniel Penfield saw the true potential of this land and what a beautiful home it would make for his family and many more to come. One of the secret ingredients that makes Penfield what it is today is the Sgoh-Sa-Is-Thah, better known as the Irondequoit Falls in Linear Park. It started to develop mill sites, which created business and made Penfield an attractive site to develop this well integrated community. Penfield is also well known for the world’s best dolomite right in the Penfield Quarry. Penfield easy access to this 400 plus million year old limestone has helped build this town by aiding in making road surfacing and concrete mixes. Both quarry and dredge operations thrive here today, and the excess ground water in the excavations keeps two 18-hole gold courses green. While this is a highly successful town financially, they still thrive in the arts. Penfield school district was included by the American Music Conference in its list, the 2006 Best 100 Communities for Music Education.
