Before Route 104, orchards flourished Ontraio making this town the “40 miles of Blossom.” Named after the Great Lake to its Northern Border, it is famous for not only its access, but also its 18th century original cobblestone houses making its architecture unique to Western New York.
Ontario has been known for many successful resources such as iron, fruit, agriculture and the Robert E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant on the shore of Lake Ontario. Some gems that have remained include the Heritage Square at the Brick Church Corners, which focuses on Ontario’s history. It is recognized as a mid-19th Century crossroads community and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
