Brockport, which was originally named, Brockway’s Port, is considered, “The Victorian Village on the Erie Canal,” It is a key ingredient to the western part of Monroe County located North of the junction of New York State Route 19 (North/South) and New York State Route 31 (East/West) at the northern town line of Sweden.

The Eric Canal, which runs directly through Brockport, recently rebuilt their brick walkway with a brand new canal visitor’s center and several pieces of art. Newly, Brockport won the Erie Canalway Award of Excellence, which recognizes excellence in advancing the goals of the Erie Canalway Preservation and Management Plan.

Brockport is also the center for one of the more prestigious SUNY colleges, allowing Brockport to become a diverse and welcoming college town. It was said by Archibald MacLeish that, “Brockport college is a town-a University College town-on the flat lands under the wind off Lake Ontario where the spring snow drifts. It is also a town where poets are.” This remains true about the school and the many bright young adults it shapes.

Brockport also extends many family and social gatherings to bring the community together. Some notable annual gatherings include the Farmer’s Market, the Summer Arts Festival, the Rotary Club BBQ and Music Festival, and the All American Soap Box Derby Rally. There are also a number of parks, each offering a number of activities to families and friends. Be sure to catch all the other historic buildings, local shops, and events going on in the lovely town of Brockport.
